Adult Faith Formation
Just as learning continues throughout life, our Catholic faith is formed, informed and re-formed by our experiences as we grow older. The circumstances of life change and so do we. Why, then, wouldn't our faith develop and deepen, too?
The Second Vatican Council re-centered our understanding of faith formation on the Gospels and the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ; on the sacraments, especially the Eucharist; and on service to the world. This new, dynamic approach acknowledges these truths:
- We learn throughout life and we are on a journey in which we never fully "arrive."
- We deepen our understanding and practice of our faith throughout life as we encounter new challenges/opportunities.
- We live and grow in community as we move together toward an active, living discipleship and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
In light of our continuing journey of faith and to meet the needs of adult parishioners, we have designed a number of engaging, thought-provoking and enlightening programs:
Resilient Heart - A program of spiritual and emotional self-help and support in coping with life transitions, loss and grief. We meet on the first Tuesday of the month from 6:30 to 8:30PM in the Parish Center Lounge.
Walking in Hope as Dementia Caregivers - Sister Marilyn, SJB Pastoral Associate and caregiver to her mother, Frances, invites you to join this support group. Since there are 5.4 million Americans with some form of dementia, with Alzheimer's Disease as most prevalent, our aging population of family and friends will cause that number to soar by millions more within the next ten years. If you care for a loved one who suffers from dementia, please attend our meetings on the second Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM for conversation and support. To reserve your space, please call Sr. Marilyn at 570-788-1997, ext. 203.
To learn more or to register for any of our Adult Faith Formation programs please contact Sister Marilyn Karas, R.S.M., Pastoral Associate. She'll be delighted to assist you!
